There are many paramedical practitioners who practice a variety of techniques designed to help "restore your balance". These therapies range from the physical (eg yoga) to the metaphysical (such as meditation) and are often quite helpful. Both yoga and mediation are very healthy practices and I urge everyone to seriously try to incorporate them into their lifestyle.
But these types of activities, often found in "wellness centers", is not what our Clinic is about.
The metabolic systems which we help you rebalance are hard core physical systems, usually biochemical, almost always measureable by direct testing. It is imbalance of these systems that leads to illness... if you are currently seriously ill you will have difficulty healing them yourself (although it is possible). 1. How Many Organisms Are You? We think of ourselves as just a single living thing. However, there are countless (literally trillions) organisms who naturally live on us and inside us. Normally we coexist with these organisms in mutually beneficial ways. However, if your bioenvironment gets out of balance, organisms which normally do not hurt us can cause infection and a variety of diseases. Sometimes organisms literally change themselves and take on a different physical form pathological to us (pleomorphism). Sometimes organisms which live on/in us in very small numbers multiple and "take over" becoming pathogens. Identification and correction of this total balance of organisms, particularly eliminating underlying low grade infections often missed by conventional medicine, is critical for optimal health and the elimination of a surprising number of chronic diseases.
2. How Acidic Are You? People generate acid every day simply by being alive. Most of us do not get rid of enough of this acid, and our chronic acid levels in our blood and tissue sets us up for infection, cancer, and a host of other problems. (A few of us tend not to be acid enough, which is just as bad and possibly worse). Measure your acid level and learn to keep it in balance!
3. Your Oils. Every human being is a wonderfully complex structure- a ball of energy traveling through space/ time. At the same time, our physical body needs oil. And not just any oil will do. There are good oils, bad oils, oils which are sometimes bad under some circumstances. Your "good" oils should be precisely balanced to keep your body purring. When did you last check your oil?
4. Your Gut. We often think of our gut as a tube which begins at our mouth and ends at our anus. But your gut is much, much more. More organisms live in your gut then you have cells in your body. And these organisms care a lot about every morsel of food you put into your mouth since that food feeds them. There are good bacteria, bad bacteria, and fungus in all of us. If the bad bacteria and/ or fungus take over, watch out. In addition to this ecosystem battle in side you, your gut functiond to absorb good stuff and keep out bad stuff. Good stuff needs to be kept out until it is digested into small enough pieces that it can be used by the body. All of these processes require the correct amount of stomach acid, enzymes, and biological balance. Traditional gastroenterologists are quite good at checking out your anatomy, but usually poor at examining and correcting you gut as an ecosystem. If you have a tendency towards constipation, your health problem is caused by your gut until proven otherwise. Do you have the guts to be healthy?
5. Your Liver and Detoxification Systems. We live in an incredably polluted world. Over 75,000 chemicals are produced every year in the United States, and 25,000 of them didn't exist 25 years ago. Our EPA is quite good at stating how much of 1 chemical one must avoid, but the effect of many of these chemicals are additive, or even multiplicative. Our ability to detoxify these chemicals varies tremendously from person to person, and even within the same person from time to time!
Toxic heavy metals contribute to heart disease, vascular disease, Alzheimer's, Parkinsons and a host of other degenerative diseases by dramatically increasing one's level of oxidative stress (see below). Measure your levels to know if your body is getting rid of these killers as fast as you are exposed to them!
6. Your Hormones. People feel better when their hormones are in balance. We strive to restore natural balance to hormones with natural bioidentical hormones. Don't confuse natural bioidentical hormone balance with the DRUGS women have had pushed on them for the past 20 years and which have recently been (correctly) condemned. Measure your hormones and get them back to the levels of your 30s.
7. Your Nutrition. Our RDAs of vitamins and minerals are pathetically low (they are the levels to keep you from having a disease if you are in a bomb shelter), and yet virtually NO Americans even reach these pathetic levels. Supplements are confusing- many are a waste. We can MEASURE what critical elements you are missing.
8, Your Structure. If you are out of "alignment", you don't function correctly. But what, exactly, is alignment?
To chiropractors and osteopaths, alignment relates to do with your spine and musculoskeletal system. Commonly people have inadequate collagen resulting in progressive ligamentous and tendinous degeneration. These people often feel better after chiropractic and/or osteopathic adjustments, but are unable to hold the adjustment because their ligaments have stretched and are no longer 100% competent. Prolotherapy can help you literally strengthen and tighten your ligaments.
To an accupunturist, it is the maintenance of correct energy fields (meridians). Often these energy fields are disrupted by scars in the body. Neural therapy ("German accupuncture") has been widely used in Europe for decades, often with dramatic improvement. Kinesiology testing will usually show if neural therapy will help.
9. Immune System. We have learned more about the immune system in the last 15 years (since the onset of AIDs) then we learned the previous 100. And one thing we have learned is that a great many people who think they are healthy have inadequate or imbalanced immune function. Do you suffer from allergies? Do you get the flu every year? Do you get 1 or more colds per year? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, your immune system is not up to par. Immune system dysfunction is epidemic in America.
10. Oxidative Stress. Free radical formation is critical for life. Without it, you're dead. But too many free radicals cause you to melt or rust. People who don't exercise die young. Marathon runners also usually die young. Balance. How do you know if your oxidative stress is in balance? Measure it!
11. Mind/ Body Balance. This is perhaps the most important of all. Seratonin is your "happy" chemical in your brain, and you will do anything to keep it high. Most of the "bad" habits people have which they know are not good for their health, but which they have great difficulty in quiting, cause a brief rise in your serotonin levels. Then the serotonin level starts to fall, and you are back wanting what you had before. To be healthy you need to connect to your source, your reason for existance. It is not our place to define for you what that is... it varies from person to person. That being said, wildly fluctuating seratonin levels are also directly related to physical choices we make. This part we can help with.
