"The Curse of Louis Pasteur"
Almost everyone has heard of Louis Pasteur, correctly regarded as one of the great biologists of all time and inventor of the 1st vaccine (vs. rabies). Few people know that at the time there was another French biologist, a contemporary of Louis Pasteur, who was considered at the time the greatest biological scientist of the day, Antoine Bechamp.
Pasteur believed that bacteria and viruses invade the body to cause illness. Bechamp believed that we live in an ocean of bacteria and viruses, and yet many people don't get ill. There must be something "run down" about the internal environment or chemistry (the "milieu interieur"). It was this run down state of the host that allowed infection to set in... and, in fact, the bacteria and viruses are everywhere and it is impossible and undesireable to try to eliminate them.
It is thought by many that much of Pasteur's work was literally plagerized from Bechamp (Pasteur was an adept politician... a favorite in the court of Napoleon).
Pasteur was frustrated in attempts to reproduce his success with other vaccines. Legend say, on his death bed Pasteur's final words were "Bechamp was right."
Pasteur's view of biology has permeated all of medical thought. Modern medicine looks for
1 CAUSE (the germ) which can be treated with
1 MOLECULE (the antibiotic or other drug) and ignores the underlying condition of the patient that allowed the germ to actually cause an infection.
Improving your "milieu interieur" is the key to improving your immune system.

Eliminating sugar is hard because (1) it is addicting, and (2) all most all processed food has hidden sugar in it. Sucrose (table sugar) is the worst, but also look for fructose, dextrose, maltose. Also, overprocessed carbohydrate (flour, pasta, bread, most modern cereals) is instantly converted by your body to sugar and weaken your immune system as well.
Stevia is the traditional "sugar substitute" recommended by holistic MDs. Stevia is very strong, use just a little. It tastes a bit different and some just don't like it.

2. Get Some Sun. 100 years ago, before the days of antibiotics, people with TB and other "incurable" infections were treated in "solariums"- hospitals in the mountains in which people were brought out daily into the sun (weather permitting) for maximum possible exposure to the sun without burning. MANY WERE CURED.

GOOD- The Basics.
1. Eliminate Sugar. Sugar is devastating to the immune system. Eating 1 teaspoon of sugar depresses your immune system for several hours. Many kids (and adults) go from eating 1 sugar filled food to another. Until you get rid of sugar, you will NEVER improve your immune system
Dermatologists and plastic surgeons have produced a "sun phobia" which is having a deleterious effect on American health. It is true that the sun causes minor skin cancers which can almost always be easily treated with regular visits to your dermatologist. However, increased skin exposure also greatly lowers your risk of melanoma (by far, the most deadly skin cancer) as well as several other types of deadly cancer. Most skin cancers are caused by sunburns. NEVER, NEVER GET SUNBURNED.
Remember how important balance is everywhere else in your body. Balance is important with sun exposure as well. Most people never get any exposure to the sun on over 85% of their body, and get too much exposure (or, more often, too little exposure but it is concentrated on just a few days per year resulting in temporary over exposure) on their face, head and hands.
